Tend To Your Emotional Landscape❤️🩹
Greetings, dear Friends❣️
The truth is, I’ve been struggling to process the cruelty being enacted by a few very powerful men that I see in the news each day. It leaves me feeling anxious and fearful much of the time. As much as I’d like to turn off the news and my devices and simply look away, that feels irresponsible to me.
What I can do is find balance—spending time in both engagement and awareness, and also stepping back to care for myself. I can meet my emotions with compassion by practicing the RAIN meditation. While this practice is shared across many meditation traditions, I learned this particular version from my beloved teacher, Tara Brach.
RAIN Meditation
This is a guided meditation practice to tend to your emotional landscape with curiosity, care, and compassion. This practice can be a stand-alone meditation, or you can move through these steps whenever challenging feelings arise. The benefit of the RAIN practice is realizing that you are no longer imprisoned in or identified with any limiting sense of self. It is a gift of becoming familiar with the truth and natural freedom of your being.
RAIN is an acronym for:
Recognize what is going on;
Allow the experience to be there, just as it is;
Investigate with interest and care;
Nurture with self-compassion.
