Awareness, Alignment & Asana for “Tech Neck”

March 22 from 2 to 3:15, at Chagrin Yoga with Jennifer Bochik & Carl Belfoire

Investment:  $20 in advance, $25 day of workshop

“Think for a moment about where you feel stress and what words describe it: “knot in the gut,” “uptight,” “butterflies in the stomach,” “shouldering responsibilities,” “pain in the neck”—they all represent places on your body. The last two—the neck and shoulders—are a prime repository of stress. Neck muscles react strongly to stress and this tendency can be further aggravated by driving or by sitting at a desk all day. Many of us have the habit of guarding ourselves in stressful situations by tightening the muscles in our neck and shoulders in an unconscious attempt to brace against trauma, real or imagined.” Lilias Folan

Forward head carriage (a misaligned relationship between the head and the shoulder girdle) is an epidemic in our culture and causing chronic head, neck and shoulder tension, which leads to pain on many levels.  The best strategy is self care!  Learn to find awareness of your own patterns and tendencies while using technology.  Learn mindful alignment adjustments to take into your everyday life.  Practice yoga poses to relieve pain and tension, and to strengthen the tender muscles of your head, neck and shoulders.
